Graduation is a time to success; a time for victory over the turmoil’s and struggles for the past years in schooling. I’m very happy that I am here as part of this graduation ceremony.
It is the great privilege and opportunity for me to stand here in front of you. It gives me a great pleasure to see today as we witness this unforgettable event. As I reminisce about when I graduated from this school way back 2006/2001, I’m also a student like you sitting there, listening to the speech of the guest speaker. I was motivated that time, and I told to myself that in the years to come, or someday, I will be there in front of the crowded people giving my encouragement and challenges to all the students to do their best and give their effort to strive for their studies in order for them to become successful and effective citizen of the society. But those things happen today that I am now standing in front of you.
Today marked the most significant day of our lives as we give priority to our education. Some educators said that “education is life, it is the key to success” yes it is definitely true and I believed in that statement because education brought me in the field which I belong, which is in the teaching profession.
I am delightful to sincerely deliver my message to all of you. This momentous occasion represent the first step of our graduates in our educational arena. The ability of man to learn is the most significant activity of an individual which give them hope to reach their dreams in life.
Our theme is "The Graduate: A Partner Towards• Transformational Society, An Answer to Societal Change" (Ang Mga Magsisipagtapos: Kaagapay Tungo sa 'PAgbabagong Anyo ng Lipunan Tugon sa Hamon ng Sambayanan). It is the great challenge to all the graduates, on how you will answer a call for a change and what would be your contributions in the transformational society to answer societal change. You serve as a catalyst in providing welfare in our societal change to become productive and useful citizens. “Success is by choice not by chance”, we are the one responsible for the preparation of our future. Poverty is not a hindrance to have an access in education; it is only an instrument for us on how we can face the strife that comes in our way.
Your mind set is very relevant to reaching your dreams in life with regards to the educational development and intellectual growth of an individual. The meaning of mindset(dictionary.com) is a fixed mental attitude formed by experience, education, prejudice, etc. “Mind setting is a power of imagination”, which you set all your dreams in life. Three powers to ponder: a power of vision, a power of goal setting and a power of focus. Who among you here have a dream in life? All of us have a dream to come true! If you set your dreams in your mind start making your dream board at home and that would be your guide as you walk with your journey in life. There are three people in this world; they wonder why things happen, they witness things to happen and they make things to happen. Which one is your mind set now? We need to make things to happen for the betterment of our life, for our family, for the society as well as to our country. Our investment for this societal change is our dreams. A man without a dream is just a wishful thinker. I have a mentor before that I blessed by his life, every time that we have a class I take down notes of what he said specially those words that he uttered that could inspired me. The quotes that made me inspired every time that I got bogged down is “dreams are mere dreams if we will not strive to reach them” through his words I pursue my studies despites of the crisis, the only thing that I can hold on is my dreams in life.
I will share to you my concrete examples or a testimony about my achievement in life despite of hardship that I encountered in my journey. Each one of us has a dream to come true, a dream that might give us an opportunity to walk with the battle of life. I’m also a student like you; going to school everyday, making my assignment, playing with my classmates and doing things that I can inside the classroom but things seems to be massive in my life because instead of enjoying my high school life, I work harded and went home early to help my parents and care for my siblings. I felt the discrimination of my classmates even my teacher treated me unequally among with my classmates. We don’t have source of livelihood, farm, our house was made by cogon grass and bamboo, we don’t have a source of income and all of these was not given to my family. And we were eight members of the family and I am the 4th son. I walked for 2 and ½ hours from home to school without allowance and I’m happy if my parents gave me 5.00 everyday. We don’t have books at home the only that I can do is to take down notes. I sacrifice and suffer the searing heat of sun in order to become successful, but when I graduated in secondary school I received an honor as a valedictorian. That’s the time that I proved to myself that poverty is not a hindrance to have a dream in life, it’s only a matter of mind setting. I continue my studies in tertiary education and earn a degree course as a bachelor of secondary education. I applied for the scholarship program of the government and fortunately they funded my expenses but that’s not the end of my struggles, I worked while studying and experienced being a working student until I graduated from college on April 10,2010. I am now employed at Kabacan Wesleyan Academy as a private school teacher and last September 2010, I passed the Licensure Examination for Teacher (LET). And it is a good beginning that we, as graduates, are AN ANSWER TO SOCIETAL PROBLEMS. Take my words as a challenge.
To all the graduates, as you will set out soon to fulfill your noble dreams as a hope of tomorrow; do bear in mind that you carry upon your shoulder the responsibility of guiding our country’s youth in the straight line and righteous path of change! A change that is possible for everyone. You are truly deserving of your best wishes as you aspire to enter in the world of learning, learning is very fun! And life long process which transform the interest of the students to engage and part of the societal change.
God Bless you all!!!!!!!And CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!........
