Mrs Smith, Mr Hamilton, School Board, Honored Guests, Students and families.
First off let me give my warmest congratulations to the class of 2016. You have been a talented, hard working class. I am proud to have been your Principal.
At graduation it is always amazing to look back over your school years. For me the reflection comes in a few parts:
- What were the class about. Who were you, how have you progressed over the years.
- How have the years been from the perspective of the teachers.
- What had school meant, have we upheld the tradition and ethos of this institution in a modern teaching environment.
The class have been amazing:
- I know the dedication of your class has been excellent. The class of 2016 has been noticeably talented too.
- Academic achievement from you all has been very good. This is the strongest performance in 10 years.
- I am glad to say there are some colorful characters in this class. Ian Hughes does know how to debate with anyone. I know the Physics department have checked their facts a few times before facing Ian in class. Sarah Hamilton must have played more pranks than anyone else in our history. All of the characters have helped bond the class into a group that have worked and played together. You should be proud of yourself.
- So, for the class a strong academic year with great social times. A good balanced class.
Now turning to the school staff:
- From the teachers perspective each class has its challenges. But this group has given the high level of satisfaction gained by working with a great group of young people.
- I am delighted with the high quality teaching we have had. The teachers are a dedicated, hard working group who are devoted to the students. Let me thank all of them for their efforts.
- We are ably backed by the school support staff. We must not forget their amazing work, making sure we have food, heat, light, security and a clean environment. They also take the time to talk to everyone which makes all our days seem a little better. Thanks to each and everyone one of you.
The school itself is an amazing place:
- At the center of everything, including the community, is the school. If it was only bricks and mortar that counted we would have a fine building. But it is not just that.
- The founders of this school were from diverse backgrounds are and were an amazing group. This is a fine town with a wealthy background and they spent a lot of money setting up the school. The school was built to educate the people of the town and give them the chance to live great lives. The school stands for academic excellence, maximizing the potential of each child while contributing to the community.
- These grounding principles have remained and they guide the vibrant way we run the school.
Within these codes we easily accommodate vibrant new teaching methods in our pursuit of excellence.
Today is a celebration of all that is good about our students, teachers and school. It is wonderful to look out on you all and feel that energy that comes on graduation day.
I am excited about the future for each of you.
You have the potential to be all you want to be.
I urge you to take a moment and be sure you always put your energy, faith, talent and time into an institution that has strong codes of conduct that will benefit you and the community. Many great modern corporate disasters would not have happened with strong codes of conduct.
I always find it very sad to say goodbye to the graduates. However life must move on I take comfort in being sure all of you will flourish. There is a big world out there waiting for your talents.
Please keep in touch with the school. We will always be glad to see you and anxious to hear your news.
Good luck to all of you!

Principal Graduation Speeches - Growth
Free PDF version, just click, read and print.
Thank you all for coming to our Graduation ceremony. Seeing graduates, parents and staff here today is a testament to the achievements of the graduates and the love and support they have received over the years.
Today is the fun part, however the past few years have seen the graduates work exceptionally hard. All of us working here very much remember the young children who started school looking somewhat overwhelmed by the whole experience. We are the lucky ones who have had the privilege of helping you with your educational growth. Also we have watched your parents support you with everything you did.
Every graduate here today has worked very hard to make the best of themselves. You have persevered and worked towards your goals in a determined way. Each of you has grown in a way that you should be proud of. You arrive here at graduation a skilled and valuable group, all ready to tackle the next set of challenges which will ensure you grow further. You are all a credit to yourselves.
Growth comes in many ways. Through out of school activities, helping others and dealing with the changes every school student has to go through, as well as achieving at school. The graduates have shown a readiness to tackle all these areas. This has given you all a rounded education. It has also meant you have grown as people into well rounded young adults.
Celebrate your graduation day. I do hope you have lots of fun planned after our ceremony. These celebrations are a fitting end to your school days. They also give us a lift here at school as we see how much graduation means to you.
Let me thank all the parents for their willingness to help the school. Fund raising activities and active participation in your child’s education are hugely appreciated by all the staff. We have valued your input at all times.
I also want to thank the dedicated staff at the school. They do not seek any praise but their skill and dedication to the task of educating the students is enormous.
The future holds many challenges and successes for all of you. Each of you will have your own unique opportunities to grow. I am confident you will rise to every occasion.
Let me wish you all the best for the future. Thank You!
Principal Graduation Speeches - Fun
Just last week I was talking to a group of graduates as I looked for volunteers to speak at graduation and also help with the ceremony. Once we had appointed the volunteers the graduates thought it would be fun to tell me who put stickers on my car, who left graffiti in the toilet and so on. I stood back in amazement. How could such a thing happen and go on unreported for so long. I mean how could they not know that we knew what happened. The teachers play more pranks on each other than any student ever did.
I relate this story partly with fear that no one will laugh, but also to show that all of us need to dedicate themselves to a great task and also we need to balance our lives by having fun.
To the graduates, I know that you have worked very hard and dedicated yourselves to your studies. The staff here have been inspired by your capacity to work hard and keep going towards your goal. Your success is very well deserved. We have also noticed that you have had real fun along the way. Seeing balanced individuals such as yourselves is really encouraging for the future.
The staff here work very hard to do everything they can to help you succeed. I am sure we can all seem very serious at times. However the teachers do have a lot of fun too. The one prank I can tell you about is the fake letter delivered to Mr Graham telling him his car insurance had been cancelled. He spent the day complaining about the insurer and working out how to get home in the rain. Just before he set off for home we told him the truth. Thank you to the teaching and support staff for all you have done and the fun too!
Thank you to the parents and guardians for all your help. Each time we asked you delivered, your support has been amazing.
At graduation day the emphasis at the ceremony is about the great achievements of the graduates. Today is also sad that you are leaving, joyous in its celebration of your success and inspiring when your future is considered.
I hope along the way you remember to have fun!

Principal Graduation Speeches - Challenges
As individuals you are a hard working, dedicated group who have thoroughly deserved your success. As a class I have noticed how helpful you are to each other. Also you have been willing to help the teachers and the school. You also have pulled together many times for charity work. Of course there have been a few challenges along the way, however this is an outstanding group.
You started as a very shy group looking a bit shocked to actually be at High School. Along the way we have thrown many challenging educational issues at you, stretched you, taught you to learn and asked you to adapt to changing curricula as the requirements changed. You seemed almost to relish the changes and your achievements are a testament to your abilities. Well done.
Let me thank the staff and support team for their dedication to the students and the way they love to let the students take center stage. They spend many extra hours over and above what they are paid for just to find that extra help they can give each student. A true group of professionals.
Let me also thank the families of the graduates. They have given us so much of their time. Fund raising, giving talks, assisting with events and supporting their child. What an outstanding group!
Today at our Graduation ceremony you quite rightly receive the accolades you are due. You can proudly take your place among the graduates of our school. I hope you can find a moment just to feel how great that is. Take time to have fun and recharge your batteries before the next big challenge begins.
The future is an amazing place. Your success is not guaranteed by being a graduate, indeed far from it. We live in a fast place world where you will only be as good as your last job. This changing world offers you unparalleled opportunities and some very difficult challenges.
To face your challenges at college, in work and in your day to day lives there are many things that being a graduate of this school will give you:
You can learn anything you are keen on.
You should follow your passion, the effort and commitment you make are better placed onto something you love.
You should believe in yourself.
You can rely on your peers from High School for help and also the new colleagues you meet.
You can cope with change
I could go on, however in this group of graduates we trust that you will make a great future no matter what comes your way.

Principal Graduation Speeches - Create Your Future
This is a great day for all of you.
Let me take you back to that scary day when you first walked through the gates of this High School. You may have thought since then that we laid out lesson plans for you. Hard working teachers monitored everything you did. We gave you homework, timetables, mentors, prescribed reading and term papers. It must have seemed like you had no time which you controlled for yourself. However as you progressed we tried to move back a little ad ensured that you knew what was required but had increasing levels of is autonomy. This culminated in your senior year with a regime that focused on you driving your education with the teaching team supporting you. The reason for that is simple, you must create your own future.
Appropriately at this time I would like to thank the teachers and all the support staff. All of you have worked very hard to educate and support the graduates. I love the way the teachers enjoy talking about the positive aspects of the Class and the funny stories that occur.
I would also like to help all the parents and volunteers who make our lives so much easier with their willingness to help. So many events would not happen without all of you!!
The future is where you will spend most of your lives. The real power of creating and being responsible for your own future is unlimited. From now on you decide the college courses you take, where to stay, the lectures you will attend, how hard you study, your career, your partner and the place you will live.
You will experience the enormous joy in creating your own life and enjoying the benefits of it. Of course there will be challenges ahead but when you are determined to succeed you will handle anything that gets in your way. You will also decide what kind of person you will be. I hope that is kind, caring and one who gives freely to others, I believe that will give you the happiest life.
I hope you create a future that you are completely passionate about, certainly you deserve it.
Good Luck
Principal Graduation Speeches - Thanks
We are here to join the Commencement Exercises for out Graduates – congratulations to the Class of 2016.
When graduation comes around I find myself thinking about its meaning, what had happened to bring us all to this point and importantly what the future holds for the graduates, staff and school.
I work my way through all the very hard work by the graduates, the challenges, students who have failed and persevered to win, excellence, triumphs, individual stories, the fun, funny stories and the staff who go out of their way to do anything they can to help. Also what our school stands for and what is the school here to accomplish, and how it will serve the community in the future.
There are so many things to think about. After reflecting on it all I always come up with a feeling of being thankful!
I thank the parents for trusting us with their children and their great support over the years. Thanks too for some outstanding fundraising this year.
Thanks to the students for turning up each day, trusting what we tell them and working so hard to be worthy graduates. It has been our pleasure to work with you on your High School journey. Thanks too for some of the pranks.
Thanks to the teaching staff. Like any production, behind the scenes there is a huge effort going into each lesson. I am privileged to work with such a dedicated team every day.
Thanks to the support staff. You won’t have noticed but there have been no power outages, no unfed students, no closed toilets, no closed classrooms, no unusable areas of the school grounds and no classes without working teaching aids. Well done to this highly successful team.
Thanks also to those in our community whose help is often unseen. Elected officials and local businesses help with their time, financial contributions and support. Our local Police, Fire Department and Hospital help with education and advice.
Today I feel enormously proud of everyone and thankful for the opportunity to serve you all.
The future too has an enormous amount to be thankful about. The graduates have the opportunity to grasp a wonderful future at College, jobs and University. There is a saying “Wherever you go, go with all your heart”. I hope you all do just that.
The school will be here for another hundred years. The school will serve our community, adapt to the demands of the future and educate many future generations. I am truly thankful to have the chance to be part of both the present and the future. Already we are planning better exploitation of technology, meeting new curricular demands and we are excited to get to work with next years’ senior class.
Although this year is just drawing to a close with celebrations in full swing there is already a real sense of anticipation about all our futures.
Well done Class of 2016, let me wish you all the best for the future.
I hope we all wake up tomorrow ready to go!!
