Photo confetti
Imagine your photo graduation invitations with some confetti scattered inside with your very own photo on it. I simply love this idea! Even better why not include confetti photos of your graduate at various different milestones in their life. This accompanied by some plain confetti in accent colours of you choice can be really, really effective. Why stop there, you could even add some confetti with wording on it - "Congrads Julie!"
They would also look smashing scattered on your table at the party as a table decoration – would certainly be a talking point.
You could include them in your thankyou notes too.
You could also stick them on your scrapbook or use them to personalize favors - the ideas are endless really. Click on

Homemade Photo Graduation Invitations
Duplicate Photos
This information is applicable if you’d like to use pre-printed glossy photos on your graduation photo invitations. The easiest way to replicate your photo is by having re-prints made from your negatives, memory card or CD. However if you don’t have any of these then fortunately there are other methods.
Take a Picture of a Picture - Simply place your photo on a flat surface or tape it to a wall in bright even light (daytime is best), then focus and snap!
Color Copy Machines - This is the least expensive option. I like to use acid-free, 28 pound or heavier smooth white paper. Color photocopying is great for changing the size of the image. You’ll find these machines in office supply stores.
Please note that if you want to use a picture taken by a professional then you cannot take it to a copy store to be copied. They will reject it because they require a written waiver from the photographer. A 1976 law prohibits copying professionally created photographs. So simply call your photographer to obtain a one-time copy-right waiver for a small amount of money.
Scanning Photos - To scan your photos at home, use the TIFF file format for high-resolution images. The quality of your duplicate photos will depend on the quality of your scanner, scanning software, printer and photo paper you print on. If do-it-yourself scanning is not for you then a camera store can do this for you and put the images onto a CD.
This option provides you with a digital image that can be printed directly onto your photo graduation invitations.
Photo Crafting Tools
Photo Cutting/Crafting Tools
- If you want to use glossy photos on your photo graduation invitations rather than printed versions then “photo fingerprint cleaner” is ideal for – you guessed it – removing fingerprints.
- A photo-safe wax pencil is great for tracing cutting lines onto photos.
- A fine-grained sandpaper nail file is great for smoothing cropped, curved photo edges.
- A craft knife, cutting mat and metal ruler are essential.
Photo Printing Tools
If you want to print photos directly onto your announcement card then you'll need the following:
- Computer
- Printer
- Card
- Photo editing software
The photo editing software could be “Paint” which comes as standard on most computers. This will allow you to extract a specific part from a picture i.e. extract a picture of the graduate from a group photo.
Microsoft Picture Manager is also something that is part of the Microsoft Office suite of tools. This will let you resize your picture. Basically there are tools on the net that you can buy but it’s worth having a look around your computer first.
Here are some ideas with photographs that you could use on the front of your photo graduation invitations and all you have to do is attach some flat card with the printed invitation details on the back.
These examples are extremely simple to make, they cost very little and are ideal for making in bulk.
Think about mixing and matching some of the ideas. You’ll also find some other useful ideas on the “homemade invitations” pages on how to decorate the frame i.e. using flat backed jewels etc.

Photo Graduation Invitations - More Ideas
Have a think about the photo you would want to use. The photo you would normally want to see is a traditional graduation photo. The graduate with cap and gown on is a fitting tribute to their achievements. Another great way is to have a number of photos of the graduate through the years. Perhaps starting with their baby photo and using a few snapshots over the years up to graduation will let guests see the progress they have made and jut how they have grown. You may of course want to have a photo that reflects the personality of the graduate or sets the theme for the party. A graduate with a beaming smile wearing a cap and gown is a good start. For example if you have a Luau theme then a graduate wearing a Hawaiian style shirt with a graduation cap on set against a palm tree or beach background would be good. Another example could be a superheroes party and you could have the graduate dressed in their superheroes costume plus graduation cap perhaps set against a city skyline. Kindergarten age kids can have their photo taken with the kindergarten mascot or their favorite soft toy. For example they could use their teddy bear which may be wearing a graduation cap. Use a photo which was taken with a celebrity. If you are also making a thank you card in which case you can use a photo of the graduate using the gift. You may even use a photo of the graduate‘s first day at work where they are using some of their gifts like a pen.
There are many possible ways of setting up the graduation photo for the photo graduation invitations. I hope you find the one that is best for you.
