I wanted to add this speech to your free graduation speeches to hopefully help others. Feedback very welcome.

Principal Emerton, Faculty members, fellow students and families.

Congratulations Class of 2008!!


My Graduation Speech Topic today is Have Faith.

That can mean many things!


First off there is the faith our parents had in us. The faith our teachers had in us and their own abilities. All of them have given love, time and support over the years. Thanks to them for having faith in us!


Think back to when you were a new student, how daunting was it to come to college. If you know what you know now how would you have felt?

I know my leg was shaking so much I could hardly drive the car. My mouth was dry and I felt overwhelmed for a few weeks.

With my experience now, I would have walked in here with some style. I would know I could face anything. I will succeed would have been my attitude.

So, looking back what would having faith have meant?

Firstly a confidence in a successful outcome.

Secondly, a more focussed effort.

More time for other people and teachers.

BUT, what about the edge you had? That passionate desire to work hard, persevere and succeed in our college.

Let us remind ourselves how wonderful it is today to be graduating. What a wonderful surrounding. This beautiful college has nurtured us and I will miss everyone!


Looking forward what is the place of faith.

I would say to use your god given abilities to their maximum you need to have faith in yourself. You must set off out into the world with the biggest most passionate goal. Without faith you would not use half your abilities. Why would you take the risk otherwise.

College was a huge step and so should the next step be big too.


There is a poem Dream Big which has the lines:


Believe in the incredible power

Of the human mind

Of doing something that makes a difference

Of working hard

Of laughing and hoping

Of lasting friends

Of all the things that will cross your path





The start of something new

Brings the hope of something great.

Anything is possible

There is only one you

And you will pass this way but once.

Do it right.





Have faith that you will succeed in your Big Dream. College has taught us that we can succeed.

Then, let your passion, commitment, perseverance, desire and hard work see you through - as they surely will!!
