Graduation Verses

Graduation verses or graduation invitation wording can be as elaborate or as simple as you choose. Using personalized poems or beautiful verses help create unique and impressive graduation invitations.
I’ve included quite a lot of examples of poems and verses that you could either use as they are or maybe they’ll give you ideas and inspiration for creating your own.
Firstly though I’ve included a quick check list to ensure that your graduation invitation wording contains all the relevant party details and at the end there are a few tips to help you choose the right font.
Wording Check List
Find out how you can create the right graduation invitation wording for your blank graduation invitations by following a few simple rules.
1) Date – Include the days of the week as well as the date i.e. Saturday July 26 2005.
2) Time – Include start and end time. End time as especially good idea for open house invitations i.e. 11a.m. – 6p.m.
3) RSVP – You could also say "Please let us know if you can come by…." State a date to call by and a phone number or an email or text reply would be suitable for an informal invitation. Ask for a response at least 2 weeks prior to the party. This will give you time to plan food etc.
4) Location – Give the full address (including city).
5) Hosts – who is hosting the event and who is being invited. Plus, if sharing the expenses with other parents then it's appropriate to mention their names.
6) Names – be sure to use the name your child likes to be known by.
7) Dress – if you are having an unusual party then be sure to state the dress code.
8) Why – what is the reason for the celebration.
Graduation Invitation Wording Tips
Bare Necessities:
Perhaps you want the colors, clipart, photos or decorations on your graduation
invitations to do the talking in which case some very simple
wording will do.
Something like:
Graduation Party Invitation
You are invited
to the graduation of .......................................................
Date Time ................................................................................................
Location ...................................................................................................
...................................................................................................................
R.S.V.P ....................................................................................................
Kindergarten Graduation Verses
I like to mix formal announcement and or graduation invitation wording with
fun graduation clipart or a photo of the graduate for kindergarten graduations.
I think the contradiction suits the occasion well. The young graduate feels
very important and probably a bit serious about this important event in
their lives but the event itself is fun and uplifting for everyone involved.
A suitable font would be Georgia (as shown below) and an example
of a suitable kindergarten graduation verse would be:
(Parents
names)
proudly announce their (son’s or daughter’s) Kindergarten
Graduation
and invite you to attend this memorable event.
(name of graduate)
will graduate from (name of Kindergarten)
(Date and time)
(location)
R.S.V.P. (parents name and number) |
Middle or High School Graduation Verses
These graduation verses are normally quite informal and are an expression of
the graduates personality and hobbies. Most graduates like to hand these out
themselves.
Some informal wording like "invite you to join them" would be more
suited than more formal versions like "request the pleasure of". Plus
“please
reply to” is better than “R.S. V. P.”.
A suitable font would be Bradley Hand ITC (as shown below) and an example of
suitable graduation invitation wording would be:
No
doubt about it, we're gonna shout about it!
Hip, hip hooray for the Graduate today!
You are invited to a Graduation Party
in honor of
(Graduate's Name)
on (Date)
at (Time)
(Location)
Please
reply to (Parent's or Graduate’s Name and telephone number)
|
College Graduation Verses
The graduation verses used for college graduation invitations is much more
formal – almost wedding like.
A suitable font would be Calligraphy or Monotype Corsiva (as shown below) and
an example of a suitable college graduation invitation wording would be:
The President, Faculty
and
Graduating Class of
(college/university)
announce that
(graduates
name)
Is a candidate for the degree
of
(type of degree)
Commencement exercises will be held
(date in full i.e. Saturday, the sixteenth of June
two thousand and eight at noon)
(address of venue)
Reception to follow at the
(name) home
(directions attached)
RSVP
(tel number) |

Choosing the Type Style or Font
Finding the right size and style of font will help keep your graduation invitation wording clear and easy to read.
The style and font of the invitation lettering should be reflected in all the lettering used for the graduation for instance, on place cards, on reply cards, on announcement cards, and guest book, and more.
For a higher word count (over 10 lines) your font should be simple, while a low word count has room to play with full bodied or fancy lettering.
One option is to choose one font for the graduation verses on the invitation and then the names can be printed in a unique or fancy font.
The example below is a particular favorite where the majority of the text is
in Georgia font and the name is in Monotype Corsiva font:
You
are invited to celebrate
(Graduate’s
Name)
recent graduation
from (School/College/University Name)
on (Date) at (Time)
(Location)
RSVP by (Date) to (Parent's Names)
on (Telephone number) |
Adding Graduation Verses to your Invitations
If you are making your own graduation invitations and or announcements then
there are several options for adding the graduation verses to your cards.
Using a Computer and Printer
Easiest Option for add graduation verses:
The graduation verses could be printed out onto A4 printer paper, cut to size
and then glued onto the back of the card if it is a flat invitation or announcement
or inside the card if it is a foldable style. All the details could be printed
leaving only the person(s) name blank to be completed with a gold or silver
pen.
More Time Consuming Option for adding graduation verses:
Print all the graduation verses including the names of the people being invited
onto the A4 printer paper, cut to size and attach to your card. This is my
favorite option. It' doesn't take too much longer and the end result is much
more professional.
Hardest Option for adding graduation verses:
Some card can be handled by printers so it may be worth giving it a try if you'd
prefer the graduation verses to be printed on the actual card. Personally I
don't
think this option is worth the bother though.
Hand Written Graduation Verses
Some options are:
- Silver or gold marker pens
- Gel pens & metalic pens
- Felt tip pens are good for writing verses as well as inking rubber stamps
- Ink pads for coloring lettered rubber stamps (better for titles rather than
whole verse).
Don't forget the Envelopes
Personally I'd print everything onto labels. Even if they are being hand delivered
I'd still print just the names on labels. It makes the whole
process much easier to keep it the same and the end result is far neater than
hand written versions.
If the envelopes are white then use white labels but if they are colored then
clear labels are best. It would be good to use a small clipart image at
the corner of the label to add some decoration - you'll find loads to choose
from on my graduation clipart pages.
It would also be a good idea to stick a return address label to the back envelope
flap. Keep this in a small and simple font and don't use any
clipart, center it and don’t include your name. If you are not bothering
with a return address label then a nice touch is to seal the envelope with
some graduation seals.
