Template for the Graduation Invitation Sample

Here are the instructions on how I created the above graduation invitation sample. Before I start, I must state that these instructions are specific to Microsoft Word 2007.

  1. First of all I like to set up the paper size and layout in my word document. So I set the orientation to landscape and the paper size to 5 by 7.
  2.

  3. Next, I navigated back to this screen and hovered my mouse over the template image. I simply right-clicked on the image to reveal a drop down list box from which I selected "copy". I then navigated back to my word document, right-clicked in the body of the doc, revealing another drop down list box and selected "paste".
  4.

  5. Next to make the image bigger so it covered the whole of the document. Firstly, I had to alter the margins for the doc so that there effectively wasn't any. I then left-clicked over the image and small circles appeared in the corners. If you hover your mouse over the circles then your mouse will turn into a double headed arrow. When this happens then left-click your mouse and drag away to stretch the image.
If you are on the "page layout" tab then you’ll also see a "positions" tab. Within positions, select "centre" and keep stretching and positioning in "centre" a few times until the image completely covers the entire document.
  6.

  7. For adding a photo to your invitation, what you need to do is click outside the image you have just added to your graduation party invitation. So you may need to temporarily reverse what you did on the previous step to achieve this. Next you want to insert a text box. NB. If you don’t click outside the image first then your text box will replace the image as opposed to sit alongside it.
  8.

  9. So to create the text box, click on the “Insert” tab up the top and select the “Text Box” option along to the right – the simple text box will do nicely.
  10.

  11. Next click on the outside of the text box and drag it into position on your graduation invitation sample.
  12.

  13. To resize the text box just follow step 3 again.
  14.

  15. Next, locate the photo you would like to use and right-click over the photo.
Then, going back to left click inside the text box, then right-click inside the text box to reveal a drop down list box and select “paste”.
This adds the photo inside the text box and magically adjusts the photo to the size of the text box.
  16.

  17. If you want the outside of the text box to appear invisible then, left click on the outside of the text box then right click on it and choose the “format text-box” option. Next select white for the line color.
  18.

  19. To add the wording, I would repeat the steps to create a text box and just position it over the top of all the wording. This will give you a blank canvas to type your own wording. Just click inside the text-box and start typing. To change the font type, size and color, just highlight the text with your cursor and right-click to reveal these options.
  20.
