Egyptian Graduation Party
by Emma Gunnarson
(USA)
My son wishes to be an archaeologist and the theme for his party will be Egyptian. We looked through some party supply stores to get the best graduation party ideas. In the end the theme for our Home based party was easy to choose.
Having a home party is best for us as we can spend more on decorations, buy gifts and favors, and food.
We also have a large backyard and can make it a good party venue.
I printed homemade invitations with sphynx clipart which was very easy to do.
We expect lots of people to just wear a toga which is fine, others will go to some effort to be Cleopatra and Anthony, Mummies and Explorers. To help enhance the theme we have lots of egyptian style accessories which will be handed out at the entrance. They are snake armbands, cleopatra headpiece, phoroah hats, and tut masks.
We have ordered lots of decorations. There is white gossamer for background, tut masks, pyramid balloon weights, beaded table runners and gold plastic tablewear. The local travel store are supplying egyptian travel posters and we have pictures printed from the internet.
As usual there will be pictures of the grad around the walls. His friends want to photo everyone when they arrive and print out the photos immediately. These will also be hung up.
There will be a face painting area for cleopatras and mummies.
The food is undecided but will be a buffet of sorts. The cake will be a pyramid. Granny is doing this epic!
Games are not decided yet but we will adapt treasure hunt into an archaeological dig! Perhaps hiding some of the accessories and gold chocolate coins.
Still a bit to go, but these are our graduation party ideas.

You can add Egyptian style confetti to the envelopes. You may even draw some fake hieroglyphics. You may even shape the invite like a Pyramid.
Decorations
Enjoy creating a real Egyptian feel with many items.
- Pyramid pictures with names, historical details on display and photos.
- Photos also from inside the pyramids showing the tombs, treasure and the burial chambers.
- Pictures of the Shpynx and the surrounding landscape.
- Set out fake artefacts.
Venues, a museum would be great. Even if it does not have an Egyptian display at the time it will still have the old world atmosphere and can be decorated for the party within limits.
Guests can hire or create their own costumes. They could be Pharaohs or other ancient characters. They might simply use bed sheets to help create their costumes. They may also decide to be intrepid explorers and wear a pith helmet, khaki clothing and carry binoculars.
