Doctor Party

by Jane Sharp
(USA)

I am going on to medical school with 2 close fiends to continue my studies. We thought of lots of graduation party ideas and in the end we have agreed to go with a doctors theme.

With a joint party and some money from our families we are able to have a good sized party with plenty of decorations, food, entertainment and drinks.

We have hired our community hall.

The decorations will have the usual banners, balloons, streamers and confetti.
In the hall we will have a 'waiting' room with monitor for showing our old videos and photos. There will be magazines and old chairs just like any doctors surgery. The magazines will include our yearbooks to sign with also sign in boards, murals and photos of us on the wall. The waiting room may be videod.

There will be a 'consulting' room with a bed, chair, desk and fake doctors equipment.
We will greet our guests and 'diagnose' they are thirsty. The 'prescription' is a drink from the bar. There will be a photographer here!

The rest of the decorations will be a dance floor with lots of balloons etc. I am on the look out for a 1980s glitter ball.

We have a DJ booked who will blend our favorite music in with the other music.

Costume is strictly doctors!

Invites have been homemade by the families. They are in the form of appointments.
"Please attend the surgery of Doctors Fratelli, Williams and Sharp for your graduation check up. All medicines provided free of charge". Plus date, time, venue and RSVP.

Food is not yet arranged but will be a big buffet style affair. My friend's family are farmers and will eat a lot!

I am looking for fake doctors kit bags to fill with favors.

The party night will also be used to raise money for the local kids hospital with raffles and other fundraising. The DJ will host all this and the party games.

There may be more doctor themed graduation party ideas but we like this simplistic but fun idea.

Further Ideas

The doctor party is a great opportunity to have a party themed based on the graduate’s real future. Hopefully I can add some extra details that will help.

Invitations

Some wording ideas are:

Come to the Doctors graduation party.
Doctors, nurses and patients all welcome.
The Surgery opens at (details)
Time/date
RSVP details

Calling all Doctors and Nurses
Come and help the graduate celebrate at the Doctor party.
The hospital shift starts at (details)
Time/date
RSVP details

As accessories you could add red cross stickers to the invitations and envelopes. You may even be able to do something unusual like write the invite on a Doctors face mask. One last thing you might try is to take a photo of the graduate dressed as a doctor and use it to create photo confetti

Decorations

There are lots of things you can do to make great doctor party decorations.

  • Create a MASH type set up using an old table for the operating table, fake medical equipment and use a tent.

  • Pay tribute to some doctor soap TV shows with posters of the shows and a copy of the set if possible.

  • Display doctor cartoons

  • Create a surgery

  • Create a First Aid area with nurses and bandages.

  • Create banners with a fake hospital name.

Guests can dress as Doctors and Nurses quite easily. Indeed they should be able to make homemade versions. Some guests may dress as patients with lots of bandages on. You may also make fake hospital passes.

You might even be able to set up a reception area or even and Accident and emergency room.

Scary Doctors
by: Jim Boyle

Perhaps there is another twist on this doctors graduation party ideas. I like the idea of a more scary themne with lots of fake blood. Rather than a sanitised, clean medical presentation, what about a messy party.

Buy lots of fake blood, bandages, skeletons and equipment.

Cover it all in fake blood, including the doctors, patients, equipment, and walls.

Have low lighting and candles.

Make the doctors and patients up using face paints to look like they are pretty mad.

The whole effect is to as scary as possible.
