Now for some more detailed clipart graduation techniques - I have listed several below which I hope you will find useful. You may find you are limited by the word processing tool you are using but certainly Microsoft Word 2003 can handle all the techniques listed below: How to Copy the Clipart Graduation from This Page If you like any of the clipart shown here then:
- right click your mouse over the image and select "copy" (Cntrl + C)
- enter your word processing package and select “paste” (Cntrl + V) .
Text Wrapping There are various text wrapping options you can choose that determine how the wording and clipart image will work together on the page. Within your word document click on the image and select the various word wrapping options from the picture toolbar and experiment. The options available are: - In line with text - this is the default and it basically means that the clipart is inserted where ever the curser is when you choose inert or paste and the text that you type will start appearing underneath the image.
- Square text wrapping - this is where a square space surrounds your graduation clipart and the text wraps around this square.
- Tight - this means that the text actually wraps itself tightly around the shape of the image.
- Behind Text - this option puts the graduation clipart in the background with text over the top of it. This works best if you “washout” your clipart first.
- Top and Bottom - this is where you can add text both above and below the image.
There are a few others but I think the 5 above are the most useful.
How to Re-Size Your Clipart Graduation It is amazingly easy to either make your clipart bigger or smaller - just follow the simple instructions below: - Click on the picture and some little squares will appear around the perimeter of the image
- Move your mouse over one of the squares on the corner
- Right click your mouse and drag your mouse in the desired direction depending on whether you want to increase or decrease the size of the graduation clipart.
Apply a Washout to Your Clipart Graduation You can actually apply a washout to any clipart graduation at all. If you do this and then stretch the clipart to cover your whole page and add some great text over the top it makes really great graduation announcement or invitations. I have done exactly this for some of my free printable graduation invitations - why not have a look for some inspiration. If you would like to give this a try then just follow the simple directions below: - Copy the clipart graduation from this or any of the other web pages onto your word document.
- Right-click with your mouse over the top of the graduation clipart image within your word document.
- Select "format picture".
- Select the "picture" tab.
- Choose the “washout” option for “color”.
- Select the “Layout” tab and choose the “behind text” option.
- You are now ready to add whatever wording you desire.
Crop the Clipart Graduation If for whatever reason you would like to chop part of a clipart graduation image off then here are some easy instructions for you to follow. This technique is especially useful for photographs when you maybe want to cut out some boring background if there is too much of it showing but perhaps there will be an occasion when you'd like to home in on a particular component of a graduation clipart image too. - Copy the clipart graduation from this or any of the other web pages onto your word document.
- Right-click with your mouse over the top of the clipart image within your word document.
- Select "format picture".
- Select the "picture" tab.
- Next just adjust the "crop from" options (left, right, top and bottom) in order to obtain the desired result.
How to Change the Color of the Clipart Graduation This is a fantastic discovery. I can change the color of any component of a graduation clipart image. It is a little fiddley but well worth having a go at. Again I used Microsoft Word 2003 in order to do this. - Copy the clipart from the web page onto your word document.
- Right-click with your mouse over the top of the graduation clipart image within your word document.
- Select "show picture tool bar".
- Move your mouse over all the icons on the picture toolbar until you find the "set transparent color" option (looks a bit like a rubber with an arrow head at the bottom).
- Now click with your mouse over the component of the graduation clipart which you would like to change the color of - this will wash the color out.
- Right-click with your mouse over the top of the clipart image within your word document again.
- Select "format picture"
- Select "Color and lines"
- Select a color under the "fill" category and click OK
- Immediately you will see that you clipart color has changed.
How fantastic is that - did you know that the color purple is synonymous with graduation. If you don't have Microsoft Word then here is an alternative method which won't be successful with all clipart graduation images, but it's worth a try: - Open up the clipart with “Paint” - most computers have this tool within the “Accessories” section.
- First of all you should zoom in on the graduation clip art image to make any changes much easier. To do this just click on “view” and “zoom”.
- Now click on the desired color on the available color palette and decide on which tool would be best suited to your desired color change i.e. paint brush for intricate work, or paint can, or aerosol (all with appropriate safety) for bigger areas.
- The beauty is that you can have several attempts at this (as long as you don’t save any changes) until it is just right.
Rotate your Clipart Graduation Even just tilting your clipart graduation to the side a bit can make it more interesting or using several clipart and tilting them in different directions. You are sure to have fun playing around with different designs. To do this I use Microsoft Word 2003 and click on the image I wish to rotate and I can then select one of the rotate buttons on the picture toolbar. How To Separate The Clipart Graduation Into Layers Basically clip art is made up from lots of different layers.

Consider this easy example of clipart graduation above. This is made up of 6 layers consisting of 3 books and 3 scrolls. If you don’t like the color of one of the books or the position of the scrolls then by ungrouping them you can easily change them. In order to ungroup the clipart just following these steps: - Copy the clip art into Microsoft Word.
- Left-click on the clip art and a box appears around it.
- Now, right-click on the clip art and select “edit picture”.
- Select the clip art and then right-click on it. Select “Grouping”, then “Ungroup”.
Once it’s ungrouped you can change any part separately with whatever graphics editing tool you want. Share Your Graduation Clipart Tips, Techniques and Designs
